American River Midwifery
Qualifications & Experience
Deborah on Left with Susan on Right.
My qualifications as a midwife include attending home births in a traditional apprenticeship under supervision of a clinical preceptor from 2002 to 2006. During that time I studied and graduated with a diploma in Midwifery, approved by the Medical Board of California. I am currently Licensed by the State of California and credentialed as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) with the North American Registry of Midwives.
Every other year I complete the Neonatal Resuscitation Program based on the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association. I am CPR certified, since 1999. Every two years I renew my license with the State of California and every three years after meeting the extensive continuing education requirements for both CA licensure and NARM certification, I recertify with the North American Registry of Midwives.
I began attending births by supporting mothers at home, birth center, and hospitals during their labor, birth, and postpartum. I have enjoyed more than twenty continuous years of active birth work and advocacy for childbearing families. My formal education began with training as a Childbirth Assistant with the National Association of Childbirth Assistants. I trained as a midwife's assistant and became a Certified Childbirth Educator and Certified Doula with BirthWorks® International, the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators, DONA International, Prenatal Parenting®, HypnoBirthing® and a HypnoBirthing® Fertility Specialist. My work includes having served as a local volunteer in the position of Chapter Leader for the International Cesarean Awareness Network.
